FAQs

  • Which type of rifle should I bring for a Montana Elk hunt?

Bring a rifle you have used, practiced with, and recently sighted in at a range.  We don't recommend oversized barrels.  Short, standard actions are very convenient in the backcountry. 24" barrels will work great.

  • Which type of ammunition should I bring?

Ammunition suitable for the rifle that you have practiced with while sighting in your rifle. .270, 7mm Remington Mag, 7mm-08, .308, 30-06, 300 WSM, 325 WSM, 300 Win Mag, 35 Whelen are all acceptable calibers.

  • How much ammunition should I bring on my backcountry hunt?

Bring a minimum of 1 full box of ammunition.

  • Can I fly with my rifle and ammunition?

Generally yes.  Check with your specific airline for specific requirements for safety, TSA security, cases, etc.  See TSA Guidelines for transporting firearms and ammunition.

  • Should I bring a lens cover for my scope?

Yes.  This is a mandatory item to protect your scope and lens from the backcountry elements.

  • What's the best airport to fly-in to for your hunts?

Bozeman International is a short trip from Broken Hart Adventures.  Our information page has more details.
