Elk & Mule Deer Hunts

Montana offers special seasons for different hunting styles, from the excitement of archery season during the elk rut to traditional muzzleloader heritage hunts. Our experienced guides know these animals and their habitats intimately, ensuring you have the best possible chance at success.

Elk & Mule Deer Hunts Information

Archery season

Mid to late September is prime elk rut period, offering exciting bow hunting opportunities. The only season where you can hear and see bull elk "bugle" in the wild.

Rifle season

Runs for five weeks, opening on the third or fourth Sunday of October and closing the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Limited to buck deer and branch-antlered elk only.

Muzzleloader Heritage Season

December-only hunt requiring traditional equipment (.45 caliber minimum, loose black powder/pyrodex, lead projectiles, traditional ignition mechanisms).
